Our Story

Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc., has been in the trenchless industry since 1993. Since then, the company has grown from auger boring and pipe jacking to include: tunneling, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), the guided boring method, and pipe ramming. Golden State pioneered the hydraulic controlled remote front steering method in the early 1990’s and have used the method on nearly every project to date. Several of the auger boring projects completed were well over 800’ in length, with the necessary accuracy for sewer installations.

Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc., has been successful using the hydraulic remote front steering method for over 25 years and over 200,000’ of auger boring installed to an operator-controlled line and grade. On small projects (up to 24” in diameter) Golden State Boring uses the guided boring machine for accurate installations.

Horizontal auger boring is a cost-effective means of trenchless construction that installs a steel casing from a jacking pit to a receiving pit. The procedure involves the use of augers connected to a cutting head located at the heading or lead casing. Depending on the soil type, the cutting head will be in front of the casing in stiff material and inside the casing in soft material.

The augers are connected to an auger boring machine that can rotate the auger and cutting head, while simultaneously thrusting or jacking the casing through the soils. Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc. has auger boring machines capable of bore sizes of 12” to 90” with several completed online and grades with over 850’ in length.

Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc. has been installing tunnels since the mid-1990’s. Our team has completed tunnels ranging from 5’ in diameter to over 18’ in diameter. Our most recent completed project ranged over 850′ in length.

Dependent of the soil conditions, Golden State owns and implements rotary type Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM’s) and/or Excavator Tunnel Shields from 60″ to 18’+ in diameter. We specialize in rib and lagging lined tunnels. Recently completed tunnels include a tunnel that was 14′ in diameter and over one mile in length.

Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc., has completed over 1, 000 miles of underground tunneling to this date. Our mission behind our Tunneling Department is to achieve our clients expectations and complete each project within our estimated delivery date.

Since the late 1990’s, Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc. has been installing trenchless installations using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) was originally developed in the oil field industry to tap into known oil rich states.

The technology has been adapted successfully to the trenchless industry market. The technology involves drilling into the soil to create a horizontal bore path under a designed alignment where open cut methods are not feasible or cost-effective.

After a pilot has been installed, a backreaming pass or passes, depending on the utility, is pulled through the bore hole and connections are made on either side of the HDD crossing. Bentonite clay is used to maintain the bore hole and remove cuttings in the process.
